Plaza Independencia 759
Looking for the best that Montevideo has to offer in the heart of the city? Until some enterprising entrepreneur opens something more refined, that would be the Radisson. With the city's best spa and best casino in house, guests can find either tranquility or excitement after a day of sightseeing or business.
The Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel is the only high–end property in the heart of Montevideo. Since it is located on the busy Plaza Independencia, guests will feel relieved and instantly relaxed upon entering the vast multi–level marble lobby, escaping the hectic pace of the city.
This is a bustling city hotel with a steady stream of groups and individuals coming and going. The Arcadia rooftop restaurant gets diners away from the activity. It creates a casual atmosphere amid refined European decor with crystal scones and lighting fixtures, most of which is lost on the guests when they see the impressive panoramic views of the harbor. Live music adds to the ambiance. The international menu includes Uruguayan favorites. The 6th floor Sexto del Radisson Bar is a more private and relaxing place for cocktails than the Lobby Bar which loses any coziness the designers might have had in mind because of its location in the large lobby. All bars offer a light menu.
The sky–lit semi–Olympic swimming pool with great views is the Radisson's pride and joy as it gives an outdoors–airy feel that is hard to find in this city. Adjacent to the pool is a state–of–the–art gymnasium, indoor jogging track, a room for aerobic classes, sauna, and Spa Victoria. The spa is full–service and clearly the best in the city; it is here that guests will find the most attentive and personal service. Concierge services, a beauty shop, barbershop, and valet parking are available. Montevideo's best casino has table games and slot machines. Live music and tango shows are common in the casino and piano music is offered nightly in the hotel's bars.
A bank of elevators delivers guests to accommodations sporting a traditional look. The standard rooms should be passed over, preferably for the suites in the tower, which come with a bay view. The suites are very large, with couches, crystal ceiling fixtures, multiple TVs and upgraded amenities. The executive floor accommodations are also a good choice, with express check–in and a wood–paneled lounge for breakfast. Business travelers appreciate the complimentary cocktail time in the executive floor lounge. A private business center and late checkout are included.
The helpful staff will arrange a city tour, suggests restaurants, and advise on what areas of the city are best to visit or avoid at night. They are also used to fielding special requests such as cell phone rentals. While the Radisson Montevideo Victoria Plaza Hotel is far too routine to make any international "best of" lists, it's the superior choice in Uruguay's capital.
